The Appearing’s of Christ

In a recent study in the book of Hebrews, I was encouraged by the three appearing’s that Christ makes for every believer.  First, we find in Hebrews 9:26 that Christ appeared for us on the cross when He died for our sins – “For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.”  What a blessing that Christ appeared on the cross for you and for me to pay the penalty of our sin!  No one else ever was or will ever be qualified to pay for our sin except the sinless Son of God.  He appeared on the cross in the past to provide a way of salvation for everyone who will trust Him.  Secondly, we find in Hebrews 9:24 that Christ is presently appearing in heaven for us – “For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us.”  Take a moment to let this thought sink in.  Christ is not found in a building made for worship or in some idol we set on a shelf.  He is found in heaven appearing before the Father on our behalf in an intercessory role.  How amazing is it that Christ is right now appearing for you before the Father!  Lastly, we find in Hebrews 9:28 that Christ will appear for us when He comes to receive us to Himself – “So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.”  Here we see the glorious truth of the imminent return of Jesus.  He will appear one day to take us home to heaven.  As one song writer put it – “What a day, glorious day that will be!”

How about you?  Christ appeared for you so that you could be saved.  Have you trusted Him alone for your salvation?  Right now, Christ stands ready to appear before the Father on your behalf.  Have you taken your burdens to Him?  One day, Christ will appear to catch us away to live eternally with Him in heaven.  Are you living today in light of that truth?
